“We’re delighted to launch our newest restaurant in Lakewood, which is known as a family-oriented community. Most items are available as individual plates, family style platters or in large take-home quantities for parties or even just a big family meal. Other items on the menu include several vegetarian dishes such as a Roasted Cauliflower Pita and a Caprese Sanwich, several pastas and lots of grilled chicken and grilled beef dishes. It was a welcome change from the usual sauce. Stonefire Grill’s signature BBQ sauce had unexpected flavors-the glaze had Asian spices and none of the smokiness usually associated with a BBQ sauce. The baby back ribs were notable too for their tenderness, cooked to a perfect chew that is the hallmark of a well-cooked rib. This tri-tip was notably very tender, a testament to their slow, even cooking. The sliced tri-tip was cooked to a perfect medium rare with medium ends, sliced thin and layered nicely on a large platter. Proteins are abundant on the menu and are a great choice to order by the platter.

A nice side dish, the Garlic Mashed Potatoes we slightly chunky and full of nice flavor from the slow-roasted garlic. The fresh mozzarella and fresh basil made for a simple yet flavorful topping. The Margherita Pizza was delicious, the crust thin but substantial and perfectly cooked, with the crust crispy and not chewy. The BBQ Chopped Chicken Salad has that just-made freshness that makes every bite a pleasure. Mary Harrigan, and her sons, Justin and Kyle along with her sister Maureen are very much into fresh, house-made dishes and it shows. Photo by Ed Simon for The Los angeles Beat. It’ll be just like the good old days sitting by the fire after a long hike through the mountains.Justin, Mary, Kyle, Robert Li. Next time I visit with my boys we’ll have to sit by the fire pit that StoneFire Grill has out on the patio, and order this hunk of goodness. They also serve a warm Whole Roasted Cauliflower drizzled with lemon tahini, and chopped parsley. I can easily see myself eating a big bowl of this fresh salad all summer long. By far, this was my favorite of the new items. The salad is served cold so the sweetness of the roasted cauliflower blends nicely with the vinaigrette cooling the palate. The heat from the serrano hit nicely at the back of the tongue without the bite that one usually expects with this type of chile. I love my veggies, so I was eager to try out their new Roasted Cauliflower salad with green onions and tomatoes tossed in a lemon tahini dressing, along with cilantro serrano dressing.

I was excited to sample Stonefire Grill’s new menu items. Plus, their menu takes me fondly back to our camping trips with rustic items such as barbeque tri-tip, cowboy beans, and peanut coleslaw. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Stonefire Grill in Pasadena (at Hastings Ranch) is one of our favorite places to “come home to”. Fridays are extra special – we let someone else do the cooking for us. No matter how good (or bad) of a day I had at work, I always look forward to the comfort of home at the end of each day. StoneFire Grill in Pasadena Photo by with my boys is the highlight of everyday for me.
